Oh my goodness!!! It's been so long since we've done a blog post, sorry about that, folks. As you know, we each have a day job of 8 or more hours 5 days a week; it's sometimes difficult to find a spot to drop our thoughts and share some of the exciting things going on with JCFCF. Christmas. was. AWESOME!!! each and every year, it grows more and more, whether it's the number of families that participate or the amount of support from the community, it literally always leaves us in awe! Easter was perfect. So many families and their children, blood and foster, came and enjoyed a great day with the Easter bunny, received a basket FULL of goodies, Easter egg hunt, each with a surprise inside, and more! We are so blessed to live in a community that cares so much about the children within it! NEXT....PICNIC TIME!!! /P/ --Debbie

It's been almost 6 months since my last post?! holy guacamole, Sheldon! I'm so sorry everyone, life and work and our various events have really kept all of us here at JCFCF crazy busy. You probably realize that most of us have kids, those kids have their own lives (we're their free taxi cabs ha ha)! A few of us even have more than one job, PLUS our family (either human babies or fur babies...or both!). Y'a'll know exactly what craziness I'm talking about, for sure! Our 2018 Foster Parent Appreciate Picnic was a more ways than one! If we all had ruby slippers that day, we all would've been tapping them together to take us home and out of that storm. Personally, I was laid up in bed after a minor medical procedure and I was SO looking forward to a hotdog lol But, when y'a'll almost were blown away in all that wind, the dark crazy clouds, dust and leaves and canopies flying everywhere....who cares about hot dogs! We hope that all of you that came out that day with your foster kiddos enjoyed the event and that you all got home safely afterward! until next year, right? :) Next up is our school supply event, so currently we're collecting school supplies that are required for students from Kindergarten to Senior. Each school and district often want completely different things and have them on their respective lists. Those lists will be supplied by Walmart at the front of their stores very soon. And of course, if you don't want to wait for the lists, the tried and true standbys are ALWAYS needed: #2 pencils, black or red ink pens, folders with and without pockets, folders with and without 3 hole prongs, college and wide ruled 1, 3 and 5 subject notebooks, the same in loose leaf paper, crayons, Ziploc bags, boxes of Kleenex, dry erase markers, safety scissors, index cards, rulers, Pink erasers, pencil cases, back packs.....that's probably enough to give you an idea. Of course, the lists are much more detailed, some classes require special calculators and other specialized supplies for our high school kiddos, Elementary students have to have earphones but each school is very specific about what type, and things like that. So we're guided by those lists as we prepare each child's school supply package. Let us know if you have supplies you want to drop off or would like one of us to pick up. Collection sites around the county will be posted soon! Everyone, have a wonderful and SAFE Fourth of July Holiday! Stay safe with fireworks, swimming, driving, and with your activities. Home of the free because of the brave! Our military heroes are always at the forefront of our minds and hearts as we recognize that they are who help keep us free! - Debbie :)

It's 2018! WOW! What a wonderful year we're looking forward to!

Y'a'll know what it's like to sit and ponder 'what if?' and 'I wonder...' Of course you do, we're human and that's how our brains work, we get ideas, we realize some are frivolous and some just flat out don't make sense. For example, the Darwin Awards...I mean, WHO thinks up some of those things and thinks they're a good idea? :) but you know what? they at least TRIED, they DREAMED, they BELIEVED, and that's what's important. Well, organizations (well, our's :)) work the same way. The Board of Directors are great minds with diverse backgrounds which offers so many perspectives and possibilities not only for the Organization, but for the foster children of Jefferson County, and the community, as well. We TRY, we DREAM, and we BELIEVE!

We BELIEVE that without our wonderful community, we would not be able to do and offer the things we do. Did you know we had more volunteers last year (2017) to help us with many many things than we had any other year? JCFCF FUN FACT :) We LOVE our volunteers!! We could NEVER do any of what we do and offer without you! We cherish each and every one of you and will always keep you close to our hearts!

We DREAM big and small...sometimes five steps ahead of where we actually are and what we can actually do :) but, we dream and have goals and have wishes for the Organization and our foster children, and we'll never stop dreaming for them!

We TRY our very best to offer services that meet the needs of the foster children in our community. We try to encourage the community to become engaged, learn about, and invest in these children. Children are the future of our community! Every child is! and each and every one of those children can do great things! It's within them even now, just waiting to come out and be the person they are so truly meant to be.

So, with all of that, we are looking forward to this new year and all of the new programs we have and are developing, all of our new volunteer friends, all of our new and past community donors and sponsors, and what the future will hold!

2018 and Exciting Things are FAST approaching!

A look back at 2017 brings thoughts and memories full of change, with a look to 2018 bringing even more. A new year beginning is a yearly promise of beginning anew, a chance to embrace change and possibilities. That's true for each of us, including each of our foster kids and their families, and it's true for JCFCF as an Organization, as well. We hope that the changes our foster kids experience are less traumatic and that the changes for their parents are full of positive growth that will bring their children home to them if at all possible. At our recent Holiday party, we did not see one child without a smile on their face. We strive for those smiles and to lessen some of the burdens in their lives. We're able to do that through the kindness and generosity of all of you, our community! You've never let us down, instead rallying around us to support our children. Through that support, we were able to offer Christmas to over 500 children during this Holiday Season. That would have never happened without you! The saying holds true, the children are our future. They're the future of our world, our planet, and our community. It's up to each of us to nurture that future, directly and indirectly.

In 2018, JCFCF will be continuing our efforts to bring change and possibilities for the foster children of Jefferson County. We're growing by the day with new programs we're working on behind the scenes.

Our next fundraising event has been announced. The Arnold/Imperial Optimist Club will be holding a Trivia Night and has selected JCFCF as the recipient of the night's proceeds. It will be held at the Arnold Elk's Lodge on Miller Road on Saturday, February 3. The doors open at 6pm with trivia beginning promptly at 7pm. Seats are $20 per person or $160 per table. There will be raffles, a LIVE Auction, and cash bar. To reserve a seat or table or to donate something for the auction, contact: JCFCF Board Member and Arnold/Imperial Optimist Club Treasurer, Mindy Dippold at 314-640-6121. We hope to see you there...we're a LOT of fun :)

Such a GREAT event!

Our 2017 Holiday Party is now over and it was a HUGE success, but only because of the many MANY volunteers that helped us with donations, setup, during the party, cleanup and so much more! Without these 'elves,' we would never ever have been able to make our yearly Holiday parties as great as they are. We realize not everything is always perfect with the party, we learn and try different things each year that may or may not work, so please bare with us as we do this. Each year, more and more children are in care, so the party gets larger with more families attending. It's great to see all of the smiles and hear all of the giggles for the several hours that the party goes on for and we remember that THOSE are the most important things of the night....that is what we all do it for, and although it's many hours of hard work, we love it and wouldn't change it for the world! If you were able to attend, then you know how great it was and we THANK YOU for being foster parents to our children of Jefferson County that find themselves in foster care. You are true heroes! --Debbie :)

Christmas is almost HERE!!

Our elves have been very busy this year! Our new office is piled to the ceiling with wonderful gifts for all the foster children of Jefferson County. Ono the evening of the 8th, our Holiday party will be in full swing. We have such great plans for this year! NEW characters for the children to interact with, games games games, delicious food, and the big guy himself, SANTA! He'll be there for photos with the children. Yet another year of sitting on Santa's knee and telling him what they want for Christmas. If you've volunteered or have given donations, BLESS YOU! If you're still wanting to donate, there's time. Just call our office 636-310-1200 or message us on our Facebook page @JCFOSTERCAREFUND and someone will respond to you as soon as we can. Without the generosity of the community, we couldn't make the Holiday party happen. Sometimes, this party is the first type of celebration with Santa and gifts that some of the children have ever experienced. Your help gives the foster children the ability to experience and enjoy the magic of Christmas. Thank you and Bless You! -Debbie :)

Gearing up for this year's Holiday Party!!

It may not quite be Halloween yet, but Holiday Party planning is in full swing! We love seeing all of those beautiful smiles and hearing those fun giggles and belly laughs from the kiddos, we can't wait!!! Presents and gifts galore, just like every year! Don't forget there will be pictures with Santa!! who doesn't love THAT jolly fat fella?! Our party has a way of getting the kiddos ready to put out cookies and milk for him! It's perfect to set the Holiday mood and we love it! If you're looking to give back, please reach out to Bettie Haug and offer to volunteer. If you feel your calendar is just too busy, maybe done some or even just one of the things on our list. Head over to our 2017 Holiday Party tab and check out the list and get the essential contact numbers needed to donate either items or your time. We appreciate each and every one of you! Without your kindness, we couldn't make this party (or most anything we're able to provide or do for the foster children) possible! --Debbie :)

We've got BIG plans!!

The Jefferson County Foster Children's Fund (JCFCF for short) is growing every day! When we started, we started with just one small event in 2009 in a conference room. Some of you may actually remember that event. Did any of you go to our last Christmas Party? It definitely was a lot bigger than a conference room at the Justice Center. The 2016 Christmas Party served 442 children!! We've definitely come a long way from that very first much smaller event.

JFCFC is growing by leaps and bounds.  Our Board members are working hard on some super awesome plans that are creating some huge excitement!  Sneak peak?  well, okay, you twisted my arm.  How about our very own office?  EXCITING right?!  We're making progress on some cosmetic upgrades with it, but this is so exciting! Our Board members will now have a base of operation and more storage for donations!  What about more services for our foster children?!  Yep, that's right, we're working on bringing some really helpful services to meet the needs of many of our foster kiddos that find themsevles struggling in some of their school classes. We're working on a Tutoring and Literacy program for our kiddos that will give them more support and assitance with their education.  We're hoping to have everything in place for this program sometime in 2018.

We have alot of BIG plans to come in the future, some later than sooner as we get funding for the plans, but we'll share those plans and features along the way as we grow!

-Debbie :)
